Division and Team Introduction (Ⅱ)

Recently, many people are discussing about Chicago Cubs, no matter their fans or an outsider just because they have entered the postseason. So, I will present NL Central, which comprised of Chicago Cubs (CHC), St. Louis Cardinals (STL), Pittsburgh Pirates (PIT), Milwaukee Brewers (MIL), and Cincinnati Reds (CIN).

The movie, Back to The Future 2, predicted that Cubs will win the WS Champion of 2015.

(Unfortunately, Cubs was eliminated in NLCS by Mets)

#1.The team logos of the teams in NL Central.

1.Chicago Cubs(CHC).

Established in 1876, Cubs owns a historical stadium, Wrigley Field, widely known as its outfield fence with prosperous growing ivy.

#2. Wrigley Field.

Another renowned feat of CHC is the prominent “Curse of the Billy Goat”, which was “spelled” in 1945.

To sum the incidence briefly, that was a bar owner (Billy Sianis) always bring his goat, Murphy, to the game. Nevertheless, in the game 4 of WS in 1945, it suddenly rained. Then Murphy’s long hair started to emit some odor. Before long, Billy and Murphy was expelled by the owner of Cub’s owner and insulted Murphy. After the incident, Billy Sianis stated to the owner in a rage which says, “You are going to lose this World Series and you are never going to win another World Series again. You are never going to win a World Series again because you insulted my goat.”

Mysteriously, since 1945, Cubs have never entered WS again……

(Note): The coincidence of NLCS is that the hero in Mets is also named Daniel Murphy.

Maybe we can never explain the curse.

#3. Murphy, the goat.

The most popular player in CHC now is Kris Bryant (nicknamed as LAODA by PTTer in Taiwan because of his similarity in name to a famous NBA player Kobe Bryant).

Kris Bryant, an extraordinary rookie from CHC, possesses an amazing record in his FIRST year in MLB. (2015 Stats: 0.275AVG, 26HRs, 99RBIs).

#5.Andrew McCutchen from PIT, an exceptional outfielder. (2015 Stats: 0.292AVG, 23HRs, 96RBIs)

#6. Base Machine!

Joey Votto, an infielder from CIN holds a incredible stat of OBP (means the chance you can on base in one at bat chance).

(2015 Stats: 0.314AVG, 29HRs, 80RBIs, astounding 0.453OBP)

#8. Ryan Braun(nicknamed as The Hebrew Hammer) is a widely known outfielder from MIL, he was involved in the drug controversy few years ago. (2015 Stats: 0.285AVG, 25HRs, 84RBIs)

#7. Adam Wainwright, a Cy-Young class starter from STL.

(Note): STL owns the best record in 2015 with 100 wins and 62 loses. But they are eliminated by Cubs in NLDS.

By the way, NL Central also settles 3 of 4 best-record teams in 2015. (STL, CHC, PIT).

Divisional Introduction (I).

#1.:The Projection done by mathematician of 2015 Season ( Varies a lot from the result lol)

As the graph above, 30 teams is divided into 6 divisions, and I will choose 1 or 2 teams to introduce.

I will start from the division little known to Taiwanese – National League, East.

#2.The logos of NL East teams.

NL East is composed of New York Mets (NYM), Washington Nationals (WSH), Philadelphia Phillies (PHI), Atlanta Braves (ATL), and Miami Marlins (MIA).

1. New York Mets:

As a team in NYC, Mets strives to shine for years. Mets havn’t entered postseason from 2006.

However they did it in 2015!

Mets get 90 wins and won the divisional champion! Now Mets have won the NLCS today !!

Here are some distinguished players in Mets now:

#3.Jacob deGrom: An outstanding youngster starter (2015 stats: 14W8L, 2.54ERA) (Feature: His hair J)

#4.Thor!? No, he’s Noah Syndergaard, another good rookie (2015 stats:9W7L, 3.24ERA)

#6.Matt Harvey- The one regarded as the Dark Knight is also a great right starter (2015 Stats:13W8L, 2.71ERA)

#8.Ryan Howard (The Big Piece)- Famous firstbaseman from PHI.( 2015 stats: 0.229AVG, 23HRs, 77RBIs)

#9.Stephen Strasburg from WSH- A highly rated starter, but he suffers from frequent injury .

#10.: Bryce Harper from WSH- A prominent outfielder with fierce temper and monstrous power. (2015 Stats: 0.330AVG, 42HRs, 99RBIs)

#11.Unfortunately, I have to classified the great Ichiro Suzuki as a Marlin, his “Ichiro Legend” continues in Miami in 2016.

#12. A model? Nope, he’s Giancarlo Stanton from MIA. Known by his incredible power, he possess the record of the farthest average distance of homeruns in 2015. (2015 Stats: 0.265AVG, 27HRs, 67 RBIs)

#13. Why teammates treat me like this ( breakdown L)?? –Shelby Miller from ATL.

This right hand starter had the terrible experience that didn’t win in a 24 game streak… With an outstanding record, he got 17 loses… (2015 Stats: 6W17L, 3.02ERA)

This week is the beginning of divisional introduction, if time is not allowed, I might change to team introduction, hope you will like it~

The Playoff---Cruel battling and Ultimate Champion.

As I have mentioned before, both NL and AL have three divisions. After the fierce competition of 162 games, the team with best score is the champion of that division, and they are qualified to play the Playoff (a.k.a. Postseason) games. The last ticket for the Playoff belongs to the wild card, which is the team whose score are the best two among the other 12 teams. Nevertheless, this rule remains controversial because these two teams have to head each other in advance to be allowed to compete with divisional champions. The graph below shows the mechanism.

After the competition, 8 teams will be divided into 4 groups to present ALDS and NLDS (American/National League Divisional Series) and so on.

When the round is over, here comes ALCS and NLCS ( AL/ NL Champion Series) and the series winners will be permitted to perform the ultimate class of MLB - The World Series (WS).

The team winning this series can enjoy the dubbed title, which means the most priceless glory- The World Champion.

Legendary Facts about WS:

1. Curse of the Goat: In 1945, a fan of Chicago Cubs brought a goat into the stadium, but before the game set, the owner forced the fan and his goat to exit. The furious fan then cursed that Cubs would never get a WS champion again.

2. Perfect Guy – Don Larson.

This normal pitcher completed an unprecedented feat in the WS in 1956. The Yankee pitcher Don Larson tossed a perfect game in WS! Until now, no one can keep up with this incredible record.

All Star Game, Homerun Derby .

In a long season of 162 games , fans may be tired every so often, and so do players. The “All Star Weekend” composed of many activities , All Star Game, and HR Derby is a short break of intense baseball season.

Established in 1933, All Star Game(ASG) is also known as "Midsummer Classic", not only because it is held on July but because it is the combination of entertainment, leisure, and sport.

In the middle of summer, the players have the most impressive performance from both National and American League will be elected by fans and a committee to feature ASG.

In early days, ASG is nothing but a show, nevertheless, recently, to increase the tension of the game, the committee decided to use the score of ASG to determine the home dominance of World Series.
